Based in the Netherlands, earlier known as Navteq, working with a vision for providing the best location experiences in the world through various operating systems every day and everywhere, to help people navigate their lives with ease and confidence. Rooted since 35 years of cartographic practice, it gives people trust and assurance on the technology to use it.
Statistics indicate that every 4 out of 5 factory-fit navigation systems in North America and Europe are having HERE maps in their system. HERE have some pioneer clients like BMW, Toyota, Garmin, etc.
HERE Maps Creator Tool
Life is fast-paced nowadays and change is the rule of the world. Be it upcoming malls or new stores, or some new route or new expressway or highway, map creator makes updating maps simpler, and regularly updating maps is key to accuracy. Doing so will make sure that each place that is there around us is mapped in the tool and hence makes it useful for navigation purposes.
HERE maps lets the user download high quality and accurate maps on the device. It can work even in offline mode so that the user can rely on this completely without any doubt. Regular updates make navigation better since the user can find the shortest route to reach their destination without relying on their memory. HERE map is a perfect companion for anyone who loves to travel to new destinations without knowing any routes.
Features of Map creator:
- Multilingual: Map creator supports about 37 languages to date. Being a multilingual tool, people of different countries and regions can update the map making it more community-friendly.
2. User- friendly search bar: User can search a location by typing geographical coordinates, name of city and street name, or name of the country
3. Editable zoom level: To add or edit places, the zoom level should be more than 18. Roads can be added or edited on zoom level 16 or above.
4. User-friendly classification of roads: Classification of roads varies from country to country. For India, there are roads marked with various colors and line styles depending on what kind of road is present in that particular location. Roads which are classified are :
My internship experience
This is my first experience as a virtual internship with an organization like HERE technologies and it was really amazing. This is also my first experience with maps and digitization of maps which gave me a lot of exposure on community-driven map data and its importance. At first, it was a bit confusing but with the constant support of my mentor Ms.Mudrika Shakdwipee, I was able to achieve the target on the stipulated time. I learned about concepts like georeferencing, Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS), images like raster images, vector images, etc. This internship taught me the importance of punctuality, being detail-oriented, and thought of putting customers’ interest over anything else which is key to success to an organization like HERE technologies.
At last, I would like to thank Bennett University for providing me such a great opportunity in such unprecedented times. I would like to thank my mentor Ms. Mudrika Shakdwipee for her guidance, feedback, and encouraging fieldwork and her multiple contributions.
